Mongolia 2.0: The Ultimate Ventilated Adventure Touring Suit

Open weave nylon and Flow armour keep riders cool and safe.

Hi!

In the next 90 seconds, I'm going to try to give you enough details about the new Mongolia Jacket & Pant 2.0 to make you curious enough to hit this link.

Lets give it a go.

Keeps you cool

Last week I told the story of how the Dakar Rally gave birth to our adventure touring suit without us realising it.

If I had to sum up the new Mongolia Jacket & Pant 2.0 in a catchy, marketing friendly slogan, it would be 'The adventure touring suit built to keep you cool'.

Which is bang on accurate, but also not quite the full picture.

Sam powers his 790 up and over the Moroccan dunes.

Jim demonstrates how air can breeze through the Mongolia Jacket.

The most attention grabbing part of the Mongolia Jacket 2.0 is its fabric. We are almost ten years into manufacturing this so our expertise runs deep. It's an open weave nylon 6-6 construction. Quite a mouthful. In practise what this means is that the material has two key qualities.

FIRSTLY, it's very, very strong. The ballistic nylon 6-6 is abrasion and snag resistant and extremely hard wearing. This is handy in terms of protection - the jacket is CE AA certified - and it's also very long lasting. I've seen gen 1 Mongolia jackets that are almost ten years old looking much better than they deserve to be.

SECONDLY, the open weave means that there are gaps within the fabric, it almost looks like a mesh, or something that your granny would knit if she were a highly accurate machine using nylon 6-6 instead of wool. These gaps allow a huge amount of air to flow through.

This means that as soon as you are moving, at speed or slowly, you are going to be helping air get through the jacket and aid cooling. This helps both when the outside temperature is scorching hot - say 30°C+ in the desert, or if you yourself are running super hot, say because you have been hitting a really gnarly trail and your body temperature is greatly elevated.

Sweaty work lifting those bikes up!

Secret hydration

And that's why I say its not the full picture, because there's two ways you can be hot.

Hot on the outside, and hot on the inside.

The Mongolia Jacket helps deal with both.

And just to hammer home the point, it's got an extra trick up its sleeve.

Actually, it's less up its sleeve and more in its back pocket.

The Mongolia Jacket 2.0 is designed to receive a hydration bladder in the large rear pocket, and route the drinking hose internally through the jacket and up out of the chest pocket.

No need for a hydration back pack.

More opportunity to cool externally.

More fluid intake to cool internally.

Neat.

Or cool.

But that's a lot of cools.

One of the standout features of the original Mongolia Pant was huge zip vents that run the length of the front thigh. These are wonderful at adapting from colder, wetter rides to opening up and allowing airflow when things got hot.

In-The-Boot or Over-The-Boot

For this new 2.0 version we've added large rear exhaust zip vents on the back of the thigh, so now the air can quite literally breeze through front to back when you need it to.

The Mongolia Pant 2.0 comes in two versions, in-the-boot (ITB) and over-the-boot (OTB).

Thomas shreds the Moroccan desert in his Mongolia ITB Pant 2.0.

We think that the ITB pant will be great for rally, adventure-enduro focussed riders, or those who are just really hard on the lower leg of their pants. We do see riders get in touch with damage to their lower inside pant leg that's been caused by a combination of their riding style (grippy), boots (large MX) and pegs (sharp). The Mongolia ITB Pant 2.0 just simplifies the equation. No lower leg pant to rub the wrong way.

Sam cruises in the Mongolia OTB Pant 2.0.

The OTB version is geared at the adventure rider who wants a less racy look and the ability to keep water, mud, sand etc out of their boots. For this 2.0 model we've used 1000D fabric on the lower inside leg. It's wear resistant and easy to repair.

OK, I've just checked my countdown timer, I'm way over the promised 90 seconds. If you've stuck with me, thank you, I hope I've hooked your curiosity.
